All events are by advance registration with W.A.M.(the Wild About Mushrooms Co.), unless
otherwise noted. To register for events, please register with WAMat the bottom of this page.

OCTOBER

19-23   Sun.-Thurs.                 Annual WAMOregon Cascades Foray

Join with Charmoon, David Campbell,  and company, for 4 days & nights of mushroom hunting,
identification, feasting, and camaraderie. Based from our reserved lodge and cabins in scenic
west-central Oregon, we will go each day to a different hunting ground, and return each night
to cook up yet another bountiful mushroom meal. Cost: $495, dbl.occ., includes lodging,
all dinners & breakfasts, permits, and instruction. Transportation not included. Group size is limited.

NOVEMBER

Sat. 1st                                SALT POINT 1/2 DAY FORAY
10 - 3   If there has been some rain, come join with Charmoon for the first W.A.M.Salt Point foray
of the season. We will hunt for chanterelles, and perhaps king boletes, shrimp russulas, & whatever
else may be up at this time. We will then cook up our edible finds, and enjoy a potluck picnic. Group
size is limited. Fee: $25 and a potluck picnic item. Register with WAM

                                 Mendocino Wine and Mushroom Fest

Nov. 12-23   Twelve days and nights of mushroom and wine themed events including special
dinners, winery presentations, seminars, walks, & forays, classes, and much more. Those events in

Wednesday 12           MENDOCINO WINE AND MUSHROOM FEST KICK-OFF
5:30 pm         Urban Rustic appetizers and wines. Join with Charmoon, fungal photographer Taylor
Lockwood, and Eric Schramm, of Mendocino Mushrooms, for an early evening of entertaining
mushroom lore and displays at Brewery Gulch Inn. $15 for non-inn guests.

Thursday 13                            VAN DAMME MUSHROOM WALK
10 - 11:30 am  Guided mushroom walk with Charmoon at Van Damme State Park. See a variety of

3 - 4:30 pm                       WILD MUSHROOM PRESENTATION AND SLIDE SHOW
Charmoon will present a wide-ranging program that will include a slide show entitled "Wild Culinary
Mushrooms of Northern California". To be held at the Ford House Museum in downtown Mendocino.  866-466-3636 for information. Fee: $10.

Friday 14                                        VAN DAMME MUSHROOM WALK
10 - 11:30 am  Guided mushroom walk with Charmoon at Van Damme State Park. See a variety of

                             MUSHROOM CULTIVATION CLASS & PRESENTATION
3 - 4:30 pm        Learn the basic principals of mushroom cultivation from Charmoon, and make your
own oyster mushroom growing kit to take home. Held at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
in Ft. Bragg. 707-964-4352 for information.

Saturday 15                                    `SHROOMING WITH SEA BISCUIT
                                         Films, mushroom walk, and cooking demonstrations.

9 - 11 am Two unique documentary film showings of Seabiscuit at the Ridgewood Ranch near
Willits.11 am - 1  pm  Mushroom Identification Walking Tour with Charmoon Richardson at the
Ridgewood Ranch. Following the films, Charmoon will be guiding a mushroom walk on the ranch
where the famous racehorse lived. Seabiscuit events by reservation for guests staying with
Baechtel Creek Inn. Fee: $50 for all three events (see next listing), for guests of Baechtel Creek

                          MUSHROOM COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS & WINE TASTING
 2 - 4 pm "Elf of the Forest" Cooks -- a wild mushroom cooking demonstration & tasting with
Charmoon, and wine tasting at Redwood Valley Cellars. Call 485-0322 for reservations. Located

Monday 17                                 FT. BRAGG AREA MUSHROOM WALK

                                               JACKSON STATE FOREST MUSHROOM FORAY
1 -  3:30 pm     Join Charmoon & Taylor Lockwood for an informative walk & mushroom hunt
in the hills above the town of Mendocino.  We will be looking for edible & useful mushrooms to collect,
and other mushrooms to appreciate. Bring a    basket! Your questions welcomed. $20 per person,
group size will be limited. Register with WAM,or call 707-887-1888. Fee: $25.

                                                          ATKINS DIET MUSHROOM DINNERS
7 pm  Enjoy a mushroom feast and stick to your diet!  Auberge Mendocino Seaside Inn &
Cottages invites you to an Atkin`s Diet Mushroom Feast featuring Charmoon and his grilled
portobellos, and Paul Katzaff of Thanksgiving Coffee and Teas. No wine. By reservation at
707-937-0088. $50.

This event, held at the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek, will feature a three course lunch with wines from Greenwood Ridge Vineyard, and a mushroom presentation and foray with Charmoon. Chef: Marcia

Sunday 23                                             THE FUNGI FINALE
noon - 3        Join with Charmoon, Chef Lisa Geer, the Mendocino Slow Food society, wineries and
others at THE LEDFORD HOUSE in Albion for a leisurely afternoon to celebrate the conclusion of this
years Mendocino Wine and Mushroom Fest. Reservations and information call 866-466-3636.

Sat./Sun. 22/23                MUSHROOMS & WINE TASTING AT SCHUG WINERY
11 am - 4 pm    WAMwill be serving tasty mushroom treats to enjoy along with the yummy wines of
Schug Winery in the southern Sonoma Valley, during the annual Holiday in Carneros. On Saturday,
Charmoon and helpers will be on hand, and on Sunday, WAM foray co-leaders David and Jeanne
Campbell will be there, as Charmoon will be back in Mendocino for the Fungi Finale. $15 includes
wine glass and admission to numerous other Carneros appellation wineries.

DECEMBER
                                             CAMP MUSHROOM AT SEA RANCH LODGE

Camp Mushroom has been postponed until January 24.
 

Sunday 14                                         SOMA MUSHROOM FAIR

The annual Sonoma County Mycological Association fair is being held at the Sonoma County
Museum, located in downtown Santa Rosa, at 425 7th St. (707) 579-1500. Wild mushroom
displays, presentations, and more. Not a WAMevent - support your local mushroom club!

Saturday 20                    MUSHROOM WALK AT FAIRFIELD OSBORNE RESERVE

Join with Charmoon for an informative talk and walk in search of mushrooms on this beautiful
Sonoma Mountain nature preserve. No harvesting, but cameras & questions welcome. $20.

Sunday 11                                      MUSHROOM IDENTIFICATION CLASS
10 am - 4:30 pm                                          with the Point Reyes Field Seminars
Learn the basics needed to begin to identify wild mushrooms. Includes terminology, techniques,
spore prints, specimen displays, using ID keys, and much more. We'll be in the classroom in the
morning, followed by an afternoon mushroom walk in search of mushroom specimens to discuss,
and perhaps harvest & cook up. Fee: $49/$46 for members. Call 415-663-1200 to register.
Held at the Pt. Reyes National Seashore visitor center.

                                                SOMA WILD MUSHROOM CAMP RETREAT

MLK weekend        Three days of expert-led mushroom hunts, classes, presentations, wild
mushroom feasting, and more. To be held at a very nice camp facility near Occidental, in Sonoma County (about 1 hour north of San Francisco). This year's keynote speaker is Gary Lincoff, one of
the world's top mushroom authorities, and author of the Audubon Field Guide to North American Mushrooms.For more information, visit www.SOMAmushrooms.org, or call 707-773-1011. A
benefit for SOMA, the Sonoma County Mycological Association. Pre-registration required to attend. Entire event, including meals and comfy, shared lodging, is $195. Sunday only (no overnight) is $90. (This is not a WAMevent - join and support your local mushroom club!).

Saturday 24  Join Charmoon at the beautifully situated Sea Ranch Lodge for a day of guided
mushroom hunts, mushroom displays & presentations, and a five course mushroom meal paired

FEBRUARY

Fri. - Sun.   6 - 8                                POINT REYES WEEKEND MUSHROOM CAMP
Friday 6:30 pm. -                         with Point Reyes Field Seminars
Sun. 4 pm. This weekend will be a unique mushroom experience, both educational and social. The
program will include a mushroom identification class, as well as mushroom cooking demonstrations,
an evening slideshow, pot luck dinner, and lots of time in the field (or woods, as the case may be)
hunting for mushrooms. The class will be lodging for the weekend at the Clem Miller Environmental
Education Center at Pt. Reyes. Instruction begins Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. Optional early
arrival Friday evening. For full details, call 415-663-1200. Fee: $140/$135 for members.

FUTURE EVENTS:

Spring date to be announced Mushroom Cultivation Workshop

This one-day workshop with Charmoon will combine both lecture and hands-on activities. Participants
will receive instruction in the basic principals of home mushroom cultivation, and will make oyster
mushroom kits to take home. There will be demonstrations of both mulch and log inoculation
techniques, discussion of intercropping mushrooms with garden vegetables, and much more. Inquire
if interested in more details.

 ****** SPRING MOREL & PORCINIFORAYS******

Join with Charmoon Richardson & David Campbell as we head to the Sierra Nevada in search of
those delectable spring treats, wild morel and porcini (Sierra king bolete) mushrooms. We will be
camping or lodging (if camping, limited lodging usually available nearby) in the mountains in areas
known for morels and spring porcini, and we will hunt mushrooms by day and feast at night. We
will teach you the tricks of the wily morels, and share other mushroom knowledge as well, including
the collecting of other mushroom specimens for display and educational discussion over the
weekend. Come join the fun! We will have Sierra forays on both Mother's Day & Memorial Day
Weekends, and perhaps others. Details will be announced in the Spring/Summer 2004 schedule.

will fill up, so early registration is advised. For the larger events, registration at least 30 days prior
